| For the past fifteen years, Hosking
Tours has been at the forefront of the Nature Photographic Holiday
market. From the very beginning the company has followed a determined
policy that offers clients unrivalled opportunities to observe and
photograph the many wonders of the natural world. |
| All Hosking Tours holidays have been
researched and prepared down to the smallest detail. Destinations
and itineraries are carefully considered, amended and fine-tuned to
ensure that only visits to the richest and most exciting wildlife
spectacles, at the most advantageous times, are included in each programme.
Strict limits were placed on the size of all groups to guarantee that
tour leaders were able to devote ample time to everyone. Particular
attention was paid to the distances and timings involved in daily
tour programmes to avoid unnecessary haste or discomfort. |
 |
| Hosking Tours are characterised
by a leisurely pace that allows sufficient time to quietly observe,
photograph or even paint the flora, fauna and landscapes encountered.
|
 |
From its very beginnings, Hosking Tours
was intended to be an environmentally responsible company, fully committed
to conservation and mindful of the possible negative effects of eco-tourism.
It has always attempted to make positive practical contributions to
conservation bodies in the regions it has chosen to visit: these measures
include donations of binoculars for the use of children visiting Bharatpur
in India and to park rangers and guides in East Africa. They are also
committed to financially supporting the Africat Foundation, to aid
work on saving big cats in Namibia and South Africa. |
| Hosking Tours
has also been instrumental in the establishment of The Eric Hosking
Charitable Trust, in memory of David's father whose wonderful photographs
did so much to foster interest in natural history around the world.
Both David and Martin serve as Trustees of the Trust, which actively
promotes conservation, through the mediums of photography, writing,
illustration and painting, by awarding annual bursaries. |
| The current directors
of the company, David Hosking FRPS
and Martin Withers FRPS, are
fully committed to the maintenance of the company's much envied reputation
for quality and reliability. David and Martin personally research,
plan and accompany many of the tour parties themselves. Sometimes
expert guides with specialist local knowledge and experience are also
engaged. David, Martin and Hosking Tours' other leaders are highly
seasoned naturalists and photographers, with a wealth of experience
having led parties to destinations in Europe, Africa, America, Asia,
the Falkland Islands and Australia. |
| All clients on our long haul tours
are offered the opportunity to meet and get to know their tour leader
and the other members of the party at a pre-tour briefing several
weeks before departure. These informal gatherings are the ideal forum
for asking the hundred and one questions that can arise before or
during any holiday. You do not have to be an expert naturalist or
photographer to enjoy yourself on a Hosking Tour. Your tour leaders
are on hand throughout to offer advice on photographic technique or
the identification of species, should you require help, but there
will be plenty of time and space for you to follow your own interests
as well. If you are interested in improving your skills as a nature
photographer, either as a novice or an expert, what could be better
than to have at your disposal unlimited free tuition from one of the
country's leading exponents of the art? Indeed, many clients have
gone on to acquire Associateship and Fellowship distinctions with
The Royal Photographic Society, using images obtained during holidays
with Hosking Tours. |

We may even be able to help with loans of specialist lenses for
the duration of your chosen tour. Thanks to a special arrangement
with Sigma UK Limited, Hosking Tours are, subject to availability,
able to offer you the use of Sigma lenses, including the 170mm-500mm
zoom (Nikon, Minolta & Canon fit). This service is free, but you
are required to insure the equipment to its full market value.
Whatever your aims may be, ours is simply to make your tour "the
trip of a lifetime" and, when its all over and the wonderful memories
begin to fade, you will be invited to a reunion to renew friendships
and display the photographs and slides taken during the tour. It's
the little personal touches that make the difference! You may be
able to find cheaper trips, but you won't find better ones.
Great care has been taken to provide you with as much information
as possible about the company and it's tours in this brochure, but
we may have missed out some items of interest to you. If we can
be of further assistance, don't hesitate to contact either David
or Martin. They will only be too willing to have a chat and answer
your questions.
