| With over 100 years of nature photographic
experience being shared by David, Martin and the other Hosking Tours
leaders, there is a wealth of knowledge waiting to be tapped, on a
one to one basis, during our tours. As our tours often have photographers
of mixed abilities, as well as artists and non photographers who enjoy
observing nature at a leisurely pace, it has been our policy not to
hold formal group tuition during tours. However our tour leaders are
only too pleased to help anyone who feels they would benefit from
some guidance - Just ask. |
|
|
| Hosking Tours was co-founded
in 1986 by David, son of one of the world's most eminent and
respected wildlife photographers - Eric Hosking. Trained in
photography at Plymouth College of Art & Design, David is now
a Fellow of the Royal Photographic Society. He is also a long-standing
member of the Zoological Photographic Club. |
|
His reputation as a master photographer has been enhanced
by the publication of his work in a vast range of magazines
and books, including over twenty, which were the product of
his happy and prolific partnership with his late father Eric.
David and his wife Jean, are deeply involved in the administration
and further development of the Frank Lane Picture Agency,
one of the oldest picture libraries, specialising in natural
history. He has travelled widely: Yemen, the Amazon, the Galapagos
Islands, Scandinavia, North America, East & West Africa, India,
the Falkland Islands, Australia and Canada are just some of
the many areas he has visited in search of wildlife subjects.
With Martin and seven other trustees they have registered
the Eric Hosking Charitable trust which gives yearly bursaries
for ornithological research through the medium of Photography,
Art and Writing.
|
 |
| As befits a
Vice-President of the British Naturalist's Association, his
interests are broad and he will draw attention to the flora
and fauna of the areas he visits, as well as their ornithological
features. David's calm and authoritative leadership will ensure
that you derive the maximum pleasure and satisfaction from your
holiday. |
|
|
|
| Widely acknowledged as one of
Britain's finest wildlife photographers, Martin is ideally equipped
to introduce you to the wonders of many of the Hosking Tours
destinations. Honorary Secretary of the Zoological Photographic
Club and recipient of the coveted Fellowship of the Royal Photographic
Society, his work has been extensively published and admired. |
|
In 1985 and 1996 he was awarded an Exhibition Gold Medal
by the Royal Photographic Society Nature Group and is the
holder of a Nature Group Silver Medal, given for services
to fellow wildlife photographers of the RPS. He is a past
Chairman of the RPS Associateship & Fellowship Assessment
Nature Panel and past Vice-Chairman of the RPS Nature Group.
His humour, enthusiasm and technique have inspired many of
those who have attended his lectures, photographic courses
and previous trips. A director of Hosking Tours, Martin will
be on hand to offer advice on identification and photography.
Born and still based in Leicestershire, he has travelled the
British Isles, Europe, the United States, Africa, Asia, Australia
and the Falkland Islands in search of subjects for his magnificent
pictures. Africa has long been one of his favoured destinations
and for more than a decade he has visited this continent on
many occasions. His knowledge and photographic expertise will
help to make your Hosking Tour an outstanding success.

The son of a Solway wildfowler, John has been a keen birdwatcher
and naturalist all his life. His interest in natural history
photography deepened after he met and accompanied Martin Withers
FRPS on many photographic jaunts into the East Midlands countryside
in the late 1970's. The two close friends have collaborated
on many projects during the course of the last 30 years and
laughter is never far away when the pair are together. His
greatest pleasure is to share his pictures with friends and
to see his work published from time to time in books and journals.
John has been a member and Assistant Secretary of the Nature
Photographers' Portfolio for almost 15 years.
|
 |
| John was a founder member and Chairman
of the Leicestershire Badger Group and has spent a great deal
of time recording and photographing badgers in recent years.
John also has a deep interest in entomology, with dragonflies
and butterflies featuring regularly in his photographic images.
Although his busy professional life as Headteacher of a large
comprehensive school formerly restricted his opportunities to
travel, since retirement, John and his wife Shelagh have travelled
to Kenya, the Falkland Islands, Florida, the Galapagos Islands
and much of Europe. They have also visited Cyprus on many occasions
and John was co-leader of our tour in March 2005. More recently
John was co-leader on our tour to Gargano in southern Italy,
where his knowledge of plants and butterflies added greatly
to the success of the tour. |

Gianpiero was born in the mountainous region of northwest
Italy, where many members of his family still reside. Surrounded
from an early age, as he was, by snow- capped mountains, flower-laden
meadows, waterfalls and mountain streams, it is not surprising
that he has developed a deep love and acute knowledge of most
aspects of natural history. His main areas of interest are
butterflies, moths, fungi and flowering plants.
Gianpeiro is also a most accomplished chef and, with his
wife Paula, runs a very successful Italian restaurant in Leicestershire.
His drive and enthusiasm, linked to his in depth natural
history knowledge will ensure success for any tour he accompanies.

Daniel is the grandson of Richard Fitter, one of the great
pioneers of modern nature conservation and an author of world-wide
renown. Daniel was born on Galapagos, where his father Julian
chartered yachts and organised cruises around the islands
for visitors. This enabled Daniel to develop a passionate
interest in the Galapagos archipelago, its geology, its human
history, but most especially of all, its natural history wonders.
Daniel completed his education in England, where he followed
a course in photography. Then, accompanied by his wife Tina,
who shares his fascination for the natural world, Daniel returned
to Galapagos. Daniel is an extremely talented photographer
and has a superb portfolio of work, covering all aspects of
the birds, animals and plants of Galapagos. Tina and Daniel
have recently opened the Creative Force Gallery in Puerto
Ayora, where prints of his work and locally produced artefacts
are on sale. Daniel is also an accredited guide, qualified
to lead groups into the environmentally sensitive areas of
the national park, and he has been successfully involved with
Hosking Tours trips to Galapagos for many years.
